Swiss Chard: Fordhook Giant White
Fordhook Giant White chard is a vigorous variety that is noted for its dark green, deeply savored leaves and thick white stems. Plants are tall at 22-27 inches and extremely wide. Introduced in 1924 by W. Atlee Burpee. Swiss chard, with its bright white stems, is one of the most eye-catching greens in the farmers' market. It can be prepared in many ways—the leaves can be cut into ribbons and dressed raw in a salad, sautéed along with its stems, or braised in a stew.
