Canadian Customs regulations place certain limitations and requirements on shipments of seeds, soil and fertilizer entering Canada. Small quantities have no restrictions, and you can order online without concern, while larger volumes have some additional requirements.
Ship seeds to Canada

Prohibited to Ship to Canada:
Soil – Soil is prohibited, and we cannot ship loose soils or kits containing loose soil to Canada.

 

Small Seed Lots, Kits & Other Goods:
Small Vegetable Seeds – We can ship seed varieties in quantities under 500 total grams (1.1 Lbs) without restrictions or additional requirements. Small seeds are any seed containing more than 200 or more seeds per gram, and typically include seeds like tomato, pepper, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, celery, carrot, onion, etc…Comprehensive List

Large Vegetable Seeds – We can ship seed varieties in quantities under 5 total kilograms (11 Lbs) without any restrictions or additional requirements. Large seeds are any seed containing 200 or fewer seeds per gram, and typically include seeds like grains (wheat, rye, barley), peas, beans, corn, cantaloupe, pumpkin, chard, beet, radish, etc… Comprehensive List

Flower & Herb Seeds – We can ship all seed varieties for herbs and flowers without any restrictions or additional requirements.

Grains - We do not ship grains to Canada because, regardless of the type or quantity of grain seeds (wheat, barley, oat, rye, etc...) you will need a phytosanitary certificate to facilitate getting your order into Canada. Any grains on your order will be refunded before shipment. 

Hard Goods – There are no restrictions on shipping non-seed hard goods. If it doesn’t contain seeds or soil, there is no problem.

Fertilizers – Fertilizers can be shipped into Canada, so long as the quantities are under 10 Kilograms total.

Large Seed Lots:
Herb & Flower Seeds - These can ship to Canada regardless of variety of quantity. No additional testing or certification is required.

Vegetable Seeds - If you are ordering vegetable seed for shipment to Canada in quantities larger than those specified above (half a kilo for small seed varieties, 5 kilos for large seed varieties) you will need to contact us prior to placing your order to calculate shipping.

Grains - We do not ship grains to Canada because, regardless of the type or quantity of grain seeds (wheat, barley, oat, rye, etc...) you will need a phytosanitary certificate to facilitate getting your order into Canada. Any grains on your order will be refunded before shipment. 

 

Handling Times

Over 90% of orders are processed and ship out within 2 business days. 
We strive to process and ship orders meeting or exceeding the stats listed above, but… we do not guarantee that orders will process that quickly. Some orders may take up to 5 business days to process and ship.

Please be aware when placing an order late Friday night, Saturday or Sunday that we do not process these orders until the following Monday. This includes expedited orders. When placing over night or 2-day expedited orders, also be aware FedEx will not deliver Saturdays or Sundays, please allow for the appropriate processing and shipping time.
 

Shipping Options

Placing an order to Canada, means you acknowledge and accept the issues associated your chosen shipping option with respect to tracking availability and payment of taxes, duties, etc...

Most orders are shipped USPS First Class => Canada Post The toatl shipping and border crossing time may take over 15 business days from the time the order is shipped.

Because of the transition from USPS to Canada Post on the package enters Canada the postal system does NOT include tracking to your door.

Taxes and duties on this option are not collected or paid by us. You are responsible to pay the duties and taxes which may be collected by Canada Post on delivery.

Canada Taxes, Duties & Import Fees

As noted above taxes, fees, and duties are NOT collected by us. By placing your order, you acknowledge that Hand Me Down Farms is not charging the full landed cost and fees and taxes may be due upon delivery, and that you are responsible for these taxes and fees.

International Refunds & Returns

Our United States Guarantee applies to all international orders, however we do not pay return shipping on international orders. 

 

Order Tracking

You will receive an email notifying you when you order ships, including tracking information so you can track your package for as long as tracking is available. If you created an account on our website, you can login to check your order status.

 

Orders Ship From

The vast majority of our orders ship from our warehouse in Los Lunas, New Mexico. A small number of orders may ship directly to you from our vendors, and you will get a separate shipping notification with tracking if it is available.

FAQ:

Q – I am unsure if my order is considered small lot or large lot.
A – If you are unsure, please email us during regular business hours and we will help you sort it out.
Q – What are my shipping rates to Canada?
A – We provide shipping rates at check out. But we DO NOT provide any applicable duties in the shipping calculation. There may be duty fees due at customs, these rates we cannot provide for you. You can check shipping rates at checkout on non-restricted orders on the cart page. 
Q – What about taxes and duties?
A – For Canadian orders, duties will NOT be included in shipping cost and may need to be collected when your order clears customs. 
Q – How long will it take my order to get to me?
A – For orders not subject to additional requirements (Small Seed Lots, per above) orders should process within 2-3 business days and could take as long as 15 business days in transit to get to you but this is typically much less.
