The Contender is a high-yielder. They have round-oval pods with a robust and distinctive flavor. Great variety for canning and freezing. Contender does well in cool climates with a short growing season and tolerate hot temperatures. The U.S. Vegetable Laboratory, in Charleston, S.C., bred this impressive variety and released it in 1949. Also known as Buff Valentine.
